Clinical Rotations
This experience takes senior students at Youngstown State University
in nutrition, nursing, and dental hygiene to urban and rural sites for
a clinical rotation.
•Dental hygiene students perform the assessment of patients’
oral and general health, refer patients for specific care within the health
center.
•Nutrition students provide nutritional care to an underserved population
and
provide health promotion and disease prevention through client and group
education of people throughout the life cycle.
•Nursing students access clients’ health risks using a standardized
format, interpret the results of clients’ health risk appraisal
report, and perform an individual health teaching session for clients
based on the report.
•All students receive clinical instruction and feedback to help
them develop cultural competence in providing the primary preventative
care to these populations. Students may also make referrals where needed
for care to other providers in the health center or to other providers.
